kailo-wha??

Upon starting my blog, I gave a brief explanation for why I chose its name.  The term kailo is a root word for health, meaning whole or uninjured.  When people talk about being healthy, they think of veggies and exercise and what they should be doing that they are not, or what they should not be doing that they are.  While this is all a part of being healthy, there is a much deeper health that matters more than just the do's and don'ts.  I recently read this proverb,
He who has health, has hope.  He who has hope, has everything.
I agree with this quote, but not only on the surface level.  Yes, if we are just thinking about the short time we spend on this earth, being physically healthy is very important for our quality of life.  However, the health of one's soul is what will bring hope, not the health of one's body.  Our souls are broken and injured without God.  The only way they can become whole and healthy is through a Great Physician, a Healer, a Savior.  Our only hope is if we accept the "medicine" that God has offered us--someone to take our sickness upon Himself and suffer the hopeless and deadly prognosis that we all have in our diseased state.  Jesus said in Mark 2:17,
Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.
Jesus is the "medicine" that God sent.  Our souls, without God, are infiltrated with a disease called sin.  If we accept this medicine, then we recognize that Jesus has taken our place and He suffered the death that we deserved.  The quote about health bringing hope is so true.  Our unhealthy souls have no hope, but when we accept what Jesus has offered us, our souls are healthy and our hope is eternal.

There is no way I can write about health without telling you about my former sickened self.  Are you broken and injured, like I was?  Good news--there is a cure.
